Nobody beats the Lynx in a slugfest.
The Lynx threw one of their best pitchers at Sherbooke, and the result was quite pleasant. The Lynx took this game by a score of 10-6.
Once again, the starting pitcher for the Lynx was Nick Trainor, and his mastery of the league continued. There were some rough spots but all in all he pitched well. One examply of a rought spot, was the 3 home runs that he surrendered. But nothing seems to faze the big guy, as he hit one of his own, and had a great day at the plate, as is Trainor fashion.
One entertaining moment, was when with Nick Trainor coming up, the bases full, Sherbrooke brought in their closer, possibly the hardest thrower in the league. He grooved Trainor a ball, and he roped it into center field for a ground rule double. I guess he forgot the cardinal rule of pitching to the Lynx. "Don't give Trainor anything to hit". Or basically anyone else on the team. The Lynx had a great day at the plate and in the field all around.
But this time the umpires were very obviously in the favour of Sherbooke. Adam Ferguson was called out on a very questionable obstruction call at first base. Actually the call should have been interference, if the umpire knew anything about umpiring.
Then in the following inning, there was a force play at the plate, and the runner was thrown out by a mile, and he still felt the need to slide and take out Lynx catcher David Cote. Of course there was no call there.
Zan Symonds was called out on a very close play at first, which led to many comments from Symonds.
There were 2 plays on the bases, that the Sherbrooke player was out by a mile, the tag was applied and he was still ruled safe.
But, best "call" and "quote" of the day was the following. With Adam Casey at the plate, and the count 3-2, the pitcher thew the ball very low and inside. The umpire said, "No...................Strike 3!". When the umpire says no, that indicates that the pitch was ball. To this, Adam Casey replied to his face, "What does "no" mean?" This brought about much amusment from the Lynx bench and stands.
Another good quote was from Brad Thomas, who was going up to bat, when he was replace by less than fleet footed. Donald Cole. Coach Ferguson said to Thomas just after the switch, "You're going to go back into center field on the re-entry rule". To this Thomas replied "I thought Donny was going to play center." Nothing like having some fun on the bench. Cole drew a walk, and was replaced by Thomas immediately, due to Cole's lack of speed.
Fergy's 3 stars
3. Adam O'Brien Locke - for coming up big with
a squeeze play when the team needed it.
2. Adam Ferguson - seemed to always be on base, and played some "good"
shortstop.
1. Nick Trainor - once again.
