The showdown between St-Jerome and NDG not what it was supposed to be
Well the highy anticiapted rematch between St-Jerome and NDG was not exactly a down to the wire type of game. If you remember St-Jerome was the team that handed NDG it's first losses of the season by sweeping a double header down at Loyola.
Well this time the game was on St-Jerome's home turf, but it judging by the Lynx run production, it could have been held at Coors Field.
The Lynx routed St-Jerome by a score of 14-2. The Lynx scored 3 runs in the first, 3 in the second and just kept on piling the offensive production from there on in.
There were some nice offensive highlights of the game. For one, Nick Trainor in the second inning hit a 2 run homerun to dead center field, which cleared the 345 foot fence by a good 30-40 feet. You do the math.
In the following inning, Anthony DiMambro hit a moon shot down the left field line that just stayed fair, for his first homer of the season. It practically travelled as far high as it did long.
The starting pitcher for the Lynx was Brad Thomas. His only trouble inning was the third, in which he gave up a homerun to the lead off batter, walked the next two and gave up a double to the gap in right center. With one runner in, the runner on first at the time was trying to score. Nick Trainor got the ball to the cut off man Adam O'Brien Locke who in turn gunned it to Adam Casey at the plate. The runner was clearly out at the plate, and since there isn't supposed to be any contact at the plate, the runner smartly tried to run into Casey. Casey gave him a good hard shove for the third out of the inning. The runner retaliated by saying a few words, then pushing Casey. Casey had to be restrained by team members, and a coaches discussion ensued, but nothing resulted of it. This just added to the St-Jerome-NDG rivalry because the same thing happened at the end of the first game that these two teams played.
The next time the lead off hitter who hit the homerun came up, Thomas pitched around him to a 3-0 count. He then hit him, whether intentionally or accidentally, this brought some comments out of the St-Jerome bench.
But the crowning glory was when the Rhinestone Cowboy came up in the bottom of the seventh. For more info on him, check out this game report. Well, with the count 2-1, Thomas tried an outside fastball and it slipped and hit Cowboy in the knee. The threw his bat and took a good stare at Thomas. Whoa, there Cowboy, this one was an accident. After the next batter hit a fielders choice, the Rhinestone Cowboy was on second base. He's one of those players that thinks he's still in Little League in which he'd dance off the base and take huge leads. Thomas attempted a pick off to second baseman Jason Doucet and it was a very close play, but he was safe. On the next play, Thomas went into the standard leg kick in which he turns all around as if he's going to pick off to second, but ends up going to the plate. This play is perfectly legal. The Cowboy, went diving back into second as Thomas delivered a strike to the batter. This was greeted with a loud chorus of laughs from the bench. This batter hit into an interesting double play, when SS Zan Symonds, trying to field the grounder, missed it and kicked it to second base, where Jason Doucet picked it up, stepped on second, and gunned the runner at first, to end the game.
As if the Cowboy's antics weren't enough, after the game refused to shake Brad Thomas' hand. Nothing like acting like a baby to reinforce NDG's hate for St-Jerome. Upon hearing this, Jason Doucet had the quote of the day, "Wanna go and torch his cows". Ah, Jason, you so crazy.
Another good quote was in the second inning, then Brock Bradley misplayed a ball at third base, the runner reached first. Brad Thomas said, "It's okay Brock, I'll pick him off." A few pitches later, the runner was picked off of first. Now that's smooth.
Obie's 3 stars
3. Adam Casey - had a good day at the plate,
especially bases, and stood his ground as catcher.
2. Nick Trainor - Nobody can hit a ball as far as he can.
1. Brad Thomas - For pitching the complete game, and making a fool out of the Cowboy.
