Let's play 2!

The Lynx opened their season on the road against St-Jerome.  Since St-Jerome wasn't in the league last year, the Lynx went into this game completely blind.   But in previous years, they have fielded some good teams.  There was rain all througout the games for the day, but that didn't put a damper on the Lynx first day of the regular season.

First you have to know about the field.  Right field was only a mere 277 feet, but the fence was the side of a hockey arena and was about 40 feet high.   The umpires said that if a ball landed on the roof it was a homer, but anything off it had to be played.  Center was 345 and left was a paltry 300.  And to top all this off, there weren't any foul lines on the field at all.

First Game:

This game the Lynx won by a score of 4-1.

Starting pitcher Jason Doucet was cleary the story of the game.  He used a mix of off speed stuff and a good defense around him to get score the Lynx's first win of the year.  The only run he gave up was a home run that a batter hit off the top of the roof of the arena.  Jason gets the title of giving up the first home run of the season.

But NDG quickly back though.  With Nick Trainor on third base and Bobby Lewis up at the plate, Lewis his a short grounder to third.  Trainor took off and slid hard into the catcher, who didn't apply a tag properly, so Trainor was called safe.

The game was tied until the 5 inning when NDG scored on a really messed up play.  With Zan Symonds on base, Nick Trainor hit a single.  On the throw back to the infield, Trainor got himself in a run down, so Symonds could break for home.   He did so and St-Jerome sent the ball home, which led Symonds to get himself in a run down of his own.  Somehow miraculously, Symonds avoided some tags, and ended up scoring on a very close play at the plate.  That play opened the gates for NDG to tack on 2 more runs to spot them a 3 run lead.

In the bottom of the 6th, kudos goes to catcher Adam Casey as Doucet got into some trouble with runners on base.  Casey gunned down a runner at third, and then a few pitches later, he caught a runner trying to take second.  Also throughout this game, Doucet picked off 2 people at first.  I guess that St-Jerome just never learned.

Overall for NDG, the hitting was fairly weak.  The St-Jerome pitcher had a decent fastball and a pretty good curve.  This mix of pitches led Zan Symonds to K 3 times, in 3 at bats.  But luckily he remedied that for the second game.

That's basically it for the first game, on to the second game.
