It's all Lynx this time

First I have to mention the between game speech by Donald Cole's father, coincidentally name Donald Cole also.  He will be known as Donald Cole Sr.

As the team was relaxing in the stands between games, Donald Cole Sr. called the team to give a little speech.  He mentioned many things about how the team should not get down on each other, to keep the tempers in check, and to act as a team.   Rumours were flying around that on the ride up, he regaled the players in the car with some VERY interesting facts.  It was all in all, a very good speech and the effects were immediate.

The Lynx dominated Terrebonne by winning the game 8-1.

Nick Trainor started the game, even with a really sore arm.  He didn't give up any runs in the 3 innings that he pitched, but was taken out due to the fact that his arm was dead.  He was followed by Brad Thomas who gave up 1 run in the final four innings.

The Lynx started the game off with 3 runs in the first inning, and never looked back from there.

Before the game started, Donald Cole Sr. stated that the person to put the ball out first would receive 20 bucks, and if he did it twice he would get a hundred.   Well, after Brad Thomas had drived in Adam Ferguson in the first, Ben Zoldan launched the ball over the left field fence for a nice 20 dollar homer.  As soon as you mention money, it seems to get the team motivated.  Maybe they'll grow up to be bankers.

The game was fraught with fun umpiring calls.

With a runner on first base, Nick Trainor threw a pitch to the plate.   Adam Casey, seeing the runner was too far off first, alertly threw the ball down.   Anthony DiMambro applied the tag and the runner was clearly out.  The umpire called him safe, but by the time the ump did this, the runner, knowing he was out, was already headed towards the dugout.  Upon his attempted return, DiMabro tagged him out.  This brought a few comments from the bench.

Here's a little trivia for you:  "Can the umpire appeal a foul ball?".  With Thomas pitching, the batter grounded the ball down the first base line and was thought to be foul by the Lynx.  The umpire called it fair.  Coach Ferguson came out and tried to get the umpire to appeal the call to the other ump who was right there where the ball passed.  The call stood.  The in the next half inning, Brock Bradley was at the plate.  The pitch came inside and nicked his bat.   The umpire didn't call anything.  When the catcher asked him what the call was he a foul ball.  Bradley questioned this decision claiming it didn't, and should be called a ball.  The umpire then pointed down the line to the first base umpire to ask him if it was fouled or not.  Now, as I recall, the umpire apparently can't appeal foul balls.  Maybe there's different rules when it's pitched, not hit.  But I doubt it.

In the bottom of the sixth, Adam Ferguson got a warning from the umpire after he thought that Ferguson was bad mouthing him.  Ferguson was sat down for the last inning.

The game was delayed again in the first inning for a few minutes due to rain.

Noteable Quotes:

Adam Casey, after Donald Cole Sr. said that he had a big mouth, "No, REALLY?"  Oh, Casey, you so crazy.

Ben Zoldan's mother as the first game was about to start, "What, another pitcher with white sleeves?", then from another fan, "No it's the same pitcher as last game."  That's why the fans need programs or something.

And, of course, Donald Cole Sr.'s speech to the team was golden.  If a transcript of the speech was available, I assure you that it'd be posted, by, alas, that is not possible.

Fergy's 3 stars

3. Brad Thomas - went 3 for 4 and pitched well
2. Ben Zoldan - for hitting a 20 dollar homer
1. Donald Cole Sr. - Isn't it obvious?
