Lynx open tournament in fine fashion
The Lynx opened the tournament with a outcome that was true to form of their season. They got another win in their back pocket.
The Lynx had to face the second place finisher Terrebonne-Maschouche. Terrebonne-Mascouche got on the board in the second early, when starting pitcher Brad Thomas clearly had problems finding the plate. When he came out after 2 2/3 innings, it the Lynx who were down by a score of 4-0. Jason Doucet was able to finish off the third. But in the bottom of the third, it was NDG's turn to turn it up. Nick Schneider led off the inning with a bomb to left field to open the Lynx scoring. Adam Ferguson then worked his way on with a walk, stole second, went to third on an errant throw by the pitcher to second base, and then came home on a passed ball. Nick Trainor then followed suit of Nick's for the day, and launched a bomb of his own, which traveled a good seven thousand feet, and was just able to stay fair.
Doucet pitched very well for the rest of the game, and the Lynx piled on the runs for a final outcome of 9-6. Nick Trainor added his second homerun of the game towards the end.
But, bar none, the highlight of the game was a singular at bat by one Donald Cole. It is quite possibly the most entertaining at bat ever witnessed by fans of baseball. Before Cole went up to bat, Zan Symonds said this to Brad Thomas, "Watch this, Donny's taking it out." To which Thomas was quite skeptical. First pitch was a fastball high and inside. Donald Cole, true to form, bends out of the way and immediately stares at the pitcher. The pitcher doesn't seen fazed. Next pitch, another high fastball, not quite as inside, by Cole is sent reeling. He once again gives the pitcher a good, long stare. Next pitch, as fastball low, which Cole swings mightily for, almost starting a tornado. He sadly misses it. Next pitch, as fastball outside, which Cole takes for ball 3. He turns to the pitcher and says a comment that was surely not too pleasant. Count is 3 and 1, a hitters count. Next pitch, fastball in the dirt, but Cole swings mightily once again. And once again, he comes up empty. Now the count is 3 and 2. The next pitch could very well decide this at bat. Fastball, right down the heart of the plate. Cole takes another mighty swing, but this time, he connects. The ball is bombed to dead center field, for Cole's first homerun of the season. The bench erupts, as do the fans. A good time is had by all, except for the pitcher.
