Lynx get a scare

The Lynx almost suffered their third loss of the season at the hands of less than powerful Terrebonne.

First a little info on the field.  The infield was nice, the mound was a beach.  It was impossible to get any footing while pushing off, hence reducing the speed of lots of pitchers fastballs.  It was the same deal at the plate.   Every single hitter was very slow getting out of the box, making running a whole lot tougher.  The left field fence, in estimation, was about 320 feet away, the center field fence upwards of 380, and the right field fence at 340.  So, let's say that this field was very large.

Well, the game was started and the Lynx were the visiting team, so they got to hit first.  The Lynx had Anthony DiMambro on the hill to start the game, so he was getting DH'd for by Donald Cole.  The first inning saw Brock Bradley score the first Lynx run on a Ben Zoldan mile high fly ball to left.  On the play Trainor advanced to third.  He then scored when he was too far off of third, and the catcher threw down to third, so he took off for home, and slid in safely.  Then Bobby Lewis reached first, and Donald Cole hit him home with a double.  That's when the rain came down.  Well, the not really rain, but the inning was suspended due to lightning.   After a 5 minute break for the rain and thunder to clear up, the game resumed, and the Lynx didn't get any more runs.

So we have a 3-0 Lynx lead after one half inning of play.  Then, Terrebonne came up to bat.  They scored 5 runs on mostly cheap plays.  The highlight of the inning was when SS Adam Ferguson misplayed a grounder and in coach Bob Ferguson's view, didn't hustle after it.  This led to him being taken out of the game.

The Lynx then got their sights straight and went on a baseball rampage and won the game 9-7.  Pitcher Anthony DiMambro threw quite a few pitches, the exact number is not known.

The umpires were more than entertaining throughout the game.

Alex Schneider was at the plate, and the pitcher threw a pitch inside.   He strode into the pitch to try and hit it, but seeing it was too far inside, he attempted to back out, and got hit on the wrist.  The umpire declared that he was in the process of swinging and called the pitch a ball.  Now, everyone in attendance saw clearly that he was in no way attempting to swing, and even then, the bat has to cross the front of the plate for the rule to take effect.  This call led coach Bob Ferguson to come running out to the umpire, and let me tell you, he was livid.  Alex Schneider received a massive welt on his wrist and had to be taken out of the game for Jason Doucet.

Someone did hit a home run out of this field though, and it was by Terrebonne.  It was a pretty good poke, out to left center-field.

Here's the quote of the game:

Adam O'Brien Locke, after everyone had was coach Ferguson yell at the ump for a few minutes, "Hey, shouldn't someone check on Alex?", who was crumpled on the ground holding his wrist.

Another one:  Alex Schneider, after getting hit with the pitch, "First I get hit by a car, now I get by a pitch."  Apparently he was hit by a car recently.

Fergy's 3 stars

3. Brock Bradley - hit very well
2. Ben Zoldan - seemed to have a great game at the plate
1. Anthony DiMambro - pitched a hell of a game, through thick and thin

On, to the second game....
